This is the first time that the award has been presented in the Greater Toronto Area, making Beacon its inaugural recipient. The nomination and selection of winners by CCA is based on market research and customer opinion, with the sole purpose of providing consumers with the most sophisticated consumer-driven results available.

The Consumer Choice Award is granted following a thorough 4-step process. The process starts with identifying the business categories that matter the most to consumers, looking across all markets, as well as regionally. Company names are then populated within each category through the scientific survey methods of world-renowned market survey companies. Companies nominated from either consumers or other business owners are also included in the survey. The list is then refined to eliminate unworthy candidates and ensure the remaining companies have a history of positive customer reviews and customer satisfaction. The final step is to integrate market research surveys and consumer insight surveys to rank all of the companies and identify the ones as the Top-Ranked Service Providers.
